It doesn’t matter who you ask, most people love BMWs. They look good, drive good and sound good. Oh, and they make the driver look good too.

But if you ask current and previous owners of these cars, there’s a bit of a love/hate relationship going on here. People love to drive their Bimmers but hate spending a fortune on maintenance.

One of my favorite BMWs from the 80s are the E30 models. They have that classic look which looks great to this day. The engines are bullet-proof when maintained correctly and doesn’t cost a fortune to maintain.

If you’re on a limited budget and need to drive a cheap BMW then consider the E30. The last thing you want to do is rush into buying one though. There are plenty of E30s for sale these days so take your time when buying one.

Here is a list of parts that are costly and tend to wear out rather quickly.

The Affordable Minivan

July 30, 2012

If you’re in the market for a used minivan then the Kia Sedona may be just for you. These cars do not hold their resale values as well as their Japanese counterparts making them an excellent value for buyers like you.

Take for example this 2005 Kia Sedona EX. This van looks as good as any other 2005 minivans on the road today. The two tone paint and clean lines of the body make this minivan an eye catcher.

Most Kia Sedonas do not come with leather interior which can be a drawback especially if you have kids. We all know how hard it is to clean ketchup stains from cloth seats. If you can find one with leather interior then by all means go for it.

All Sedonas come with a 3.5 liter V6 engine making 195 hp with standard seating for seven people. Fuel economy is 14 city/22 highway which is on the low side because of the weight of the van. On the positive side it only requires regular grade gasoline.

I spotted this 1996 Honda Accord Wagon with 114K miles for sale on eBay. The starting bid is $4600 and no one has yet to bid.

I’m actually quite surprised there are no bidders. This car is a cheap alternative to those gas guzzling SUVs.

Not only does this car get great gas mileage, up to 30mpg, but also looks great. This car looks to be in near perfect condition. I guess station wagons aren’t for everybody.

Six reasons why I like this car:

1. I love the burgundy color on this car.

2. This car is all factory with no mods.

3. You don’t see many Accord Wagons on the road.

The Four Door Sports Car

June 14, 2012

Back in January of 2005 I had the privilege of buying a used 1998 Nissan Maxima SE from a dealer. It had about 120K miles on it at the time and I was able to snatch it away for $5500 cash. A pretty cheap price at the time.

The car came standard with fog lamps, a rear spoiler, 16 inch alloy wheels and a white analog gauge. It was dark green and had beige leather interior. It was a sweet looking car to say the least.

Here is a picture of my 1998 Nissan Maxima that I took in the summer of 2005. After over 250K miles on the clock I finally decided to sell it and was still in decent shape. I probably could have gotten over 300K miles out of it with no problem.

Camry Overhaul on eBay

June 7, 2012

Here is a 2000 Toyota Camry with 206K miles for sale on eBay. This is an LE model with a 2.2 liter four cylinder engine creating 133 hp. This might not seem like much power but these 4 cylinder Toyotas are quite peppy.

My father has a 1992 Camry with a 4 cylinder engine with well over 200K miles on it and it runs almost as well as my 6 cylinder Camry.

According to the owner the timing belt, water pump, brakes, struts and radiator was recently replaced.

Interestingly the exterior and interior have been completely redone. The seats and carpets have been replaced and the car has a new paint job.

Here is a 2000 Lexus SC 300 coupe with 78K miles on the clock that was recently listed on eBay. The auction ended at $5900 but the reserve was not met.

It had a ‘Buy It Now’ price of $13K which is not cheap but still a decent price considering its low mileage.

These cars really never gained the popularity that Lexus was looking for. I guess there was just too much competition back then.

The 1990s were filled with performance cars from Japan. Cars like the 300ZX Twin Turbo, Supra Twin Turbo, 3000GT VR-4 and RX-7 stole the spotlight in the 90s before eventually succumbing to the falling Yen.
