I remember test driving a used 1991 MR2 Turbo back in the mid 90s. It had a 5 speed manual transmission and was completely stock.
The car looked great with it’s black exterior and black cloth interior. It looked and drove like a new car.
I remember how nimble the car felt through the corners and how the turbo spooled up quickly with virtually no lag.
Though I ended up not buying the car for practical reasons, I had a newfound respect for the MR2.
Many people refer this car as the poor man’s Ferrari. I don’t think it’s fair to call it that. This car is in a class of its own and for the price no car can come near it.
If you’re in the market for an MR2 this one is for sale on eBay and is completely stock according to the owner.
The price is listed at $11,500 and has 80K miles. This is by no means cheap for a twenty one year old car but there aren’t many MR2s in this condition. The car looks like it just rolled out of the factory.
It comes with a 2.0 liter 200 hp turbo charged engine weighing in at a reasonable 2800 lbs. Though I prefer black this car doesn’t look bad at all.
If I were to buy this car the only thing I would change are the wheels. They look a little too small for the car but other than that this car looks great.
It’s been a while since I last saw an MR2 on the road. It seems most of these cars are either driven into the ground or are being stored as a collectible. But these cars are meant to be driven and not stored in the garage.
For most people this car is not practical but if you’re single you can use this as your daily driver. It actually has a small trunk with enough space to fit two grocery bags or a golf club.
I’ve never owned an MR2 and would like to hear from owners and especially from those who use it as their daily driver. Have you ever owned an MR2 and what was your experience with the car?
